Safo recebeu um e-mail por parte da organização do evento EuroPride Lisboa 2025 (a pouco mais de um mês do mesmo começar). Tal e-mail tinha como objetivo nos convidar para atividades do evento.
Dessa forma, e por respeito às pessoas associadas e comunidade LGBTQIAP+, decidimos deixar público o nosso posicionamento, partilhando a resposta que emitimos, até ao momento sem qualquer retorno
Esclarecemos que nosso posicionamento coincide com os valores da associação, esses sempre feministas, interseccionais, que compreendem que o princípio das causas sociais é o respeito pelos Direitos Humanos.
Reivindicamos também contra o pinkwashing.
Acreditamos nos princípios decoloniais e antirracistas.
Defendemos a liberdade e reconhecimento do território da Palestina.
Partilhado o nosso posicionamento, reiterando que apelamos ainda à consciencia de todas as pessoas ativistas LGBTQIAP+ e aliedes que, devido aos tempos que vivemos, é cada vez mais necessário e urgente o posicionamento de todes e de cada pessoa perante questões cruciais que impactam diretamente as nossas vivências.

É com espanto que recebemos este convite, o qual teremos de declinar.
Antes de mais, queremos pontuar que a arroba, enquanto forma escrita de português inclusivo não é utilizada há vários anos pelo movimento LGBTQIAP+ em Portugal não só por não ser inclusiva em questões de género como também por ser excludente em questões de acessibilidade.
Queremos pontuar também que o Clube Safo, ao longo de todo o processo de candidatura para o EuroPride, manteve-se sempre firme na sua posição que é contra o mesmo acontecer em Lisboa. Não podemos apoiar uma estrutura que não está realmente interessada e investida em apoiar os movimentos LGBTQIAP+ locais e nacionais. Que se concentra no lucro e no apoio a negócios em vez do movimento social e político LGBTQIAP+ que acontece em Portugal.
Exatamente por vivermos num contexto cada vez mais difícil, de escassez de recursos investidos em movimentos para os Direitos Humanos, e em específico LGBTQIAP+, em particular no movimento lésbico* (um bom recurso para estes dados são os relatórios da EL*C desde 2022), seria impossível para nós enquanto a única associação legal em Portugal que defende os direitos das lésbicas* apoiar este evento.
Em Lisboa existe uma crise na habitação que faz com que muitas e muites de nós tenhamos de viver em condições de, ou equiparadas a sem-abrigo, sem condições de pagar uma renda. Entendemos que o EUROPRIDE não perceba a sua responsabilidade nesta questão, sabemos que em Lisboa existem mais de 22 mil alojamentos locais que nos últimos meses temos perdido respostas culturais comunitárias LGBTQIAP+ e lésbicas como a VALSA devido aos preços predatórios das rendas e do investimento em mais hoteis na cidade que já tem 334 hoteis e onde se prevê um crescimento de 15% com mais 54 hoteis. Casais de lésbicas* vivem em situações económicas e financeiras dificultadas pela lesbofobia tanto por discriminação na família de origem como no trabalho e que são muitas vezes empurradas para as periferias ou mesmo para situações de perigo por esses motivos tendo de se sujeitar a situações de violência e assédio.
Não poderíamos apoiar uma estrutura e um evento como o EuroPride que diz apoiar a comunidade mas que apoia um setor que deixa muitas pessoas LGBTQIAP+ em específico lésbicas* em perigo, em situação de sem-abrigo e ainda maior vulnerabilidade.
É verdade que a nossa comunidade está a enfrentar ameaças crescentes a nível global, por isso é tão importante apoiar ativistas e organizações que vêem as suas vidas em risco e continuam na linha da frente contra as mesmas. No entanto, o EUROPRIDE, promovendo negócios e grandes marcas, retirou ao movimento associativo português um momento-chave para a sua sustentabilidade. O Arraial Pride promovido pela Ilga Portugal, como o apoio da Câmara Municipal de Lisboa que ao longo dos anos nos permitiu angariar fundos que muitas vezes permitiram dar continuidade a actividades como encontros, apoio social e psicológico, etc. Este ano este momento vital foi-nos retirado e assim os fundos que seriam angariados também.
O EUROPRIDE em momento algum ofereceu esta possibilidade às associações do movimento LGBQIAP+ em Portugal tendo ainda por cima tentando se sobrepor à Comissão Organizadora da Marcha de Orgulho de Lisboa, da qual o Clube Safo sempre fez parte, culminando na existência de dois momentos distintos sem que o EUROPRIDE alguma vez tenha tentado fazer este momento acontecer em conjunto. O EUROPRIDE em momento algum contactou as organizações LGBTQIAP+ portuguesas mesmo depois das organizações que fizeram a candidatura se terem afastado (Ilga Portugal, rede exaequo e Amplos).
Percebemos que este é um evento capitalista que tem em vista negócios e não associações, organizações e pessoas LGBTQIAP+, em particular lésbicas*, por isso, em momento algum seria possível o Clube Safo apoiar, promover ou estar presente no EUROPRIDE 2025 em Lisboa.
Que este seja um momento que ajude o EUROPRIDE a repensar-se e a efetivamente trabalhar de forma a que possa apoiar os movimentos LGBTI+ nas cidades em que acontece nos próximos anos.”
O Clube Safo assina também o manifesto “NO PRIDE IN GENOCIDE” subscrito por mais de 60 organizações de defesa dos Direitos Humanos e LGBTQIAP+ em Lisboa e Portugal.

On May 2nd, Clube Safo received an email from the organizers of the EuroPride Lisbon 2025 event (just over a month before it started). The email was intended to invite the organization to participate in the event’s activities.
In this way, and out of respect for our members and the LGBTQIAP+ community, we decided to make our position public, sharing the response we issued, so far with no answer.
We clarify that our position is in line with the association’s values, which are feminist and intersectional, who understand that Human Rights are a social justice cause and we should all be committed to it.
We also speak out against pinkwashing.
We believe in decolonial and antiracist principles.
We defend the freedom and recognition of the territory of Palestine.

It is with astonishment that we receive this invitation, which we will have to decline.
First of all, we would like to point out that the arroba (@), as a written form of inclusive Portuguese, has not been used for several years by the LGBTQIAP+ movement in Portugal, not only because it is not inclusive in terms of gender but also because it is exclusionary in terms of accessibility.
We would also like to point out that Clube Safo, throughout the entire bid process for EuroPride, has always remained firm in its position against it happening in Lisbon. We cannot support a structure that is not truly interested and invested in supporting local and national LGBTQIAP+ movements. That focuses on profit and supporting businesses rather than the LGBTQIAP+ social and political movements that are happening in Portugal.
Precisely because we live in an increasingly difficult context, with a shortage of resources invested in movements for Human Rights, and specifically LGBTQIAP+, in particular to the lesbian* movement (a good resource for this data are the EL*C reports since 2022), it would be impossible for us as the only legal association in Portugal that defends the rights of lesbians* to support this event.
There is a housing crisis in Lisbon that means many of us have to live in conditions of houselessness or comparable to homelessness, unable to pay rent. We understand that EUROPRIDE does not understand its responsibility in this matter. We know that in Lisbon there are more than 22,000 local accommodations and in recent months we have lost LGBTQIAP+ and lesbian community cultural responses and spaces such as VALSA due to predatory rent prices and investment in more hotels in the city, which already has 334 hotels and is expected to grow by 15% with 54 more hotels. Lesbian* couples live in economic and financial situations that are made difficult by lesbophobia, both due to discrimination in their family of origin and at work. They are often pushed to the outskirts or even into dangerous situations for these reasons, having to subject themselves to situations of violence and harassment.
We could not support a structure and an event like EuroPride that claims to support the community but supports a sector that leaves many LGBTQIAP+ people, specifically lesbians*, in danger, homelessness and even more vulnerable.
It is true that our community is facing increasing threats on a global level, which is why it is so important to support activists and organizations that see their lives at risk and continue to be on the front line against them. However, EUROPRIDE, by promoting businesses and big brands, has taken away from the Portuguese associative movement a key moment for its sustainability. The Arraial Pride promoted by Ilga Portugal, with the support of the Lisbon City Council, which over the years has allowed us to raise funds that have often allowed us to continue activities such as meetings, social and psychological support, etc. This year this vital moment was taken away from us and so were the funds that would have been raised.
EUROPRIDE never offered this possibility to associations of the LGBQIAP+ movement in Portugal, and even tried to override the Organizing Committee of the Lisbon Pride March, of which Clube Safo has always been a member, culminating in the existence of two distinct moments without EUROPRIDE ever trying to contact the Committee. EUROPRIDE never contacted Portuguese LGBTQIAP+ organizations, even after the organizations that submitted the bid for EUROPRIDE 2025 Lisbon (Ilga Portugal, rede exaequo and Amplos) withdrew.
We understand that this is a capitalist event that focuses on businesses and not on LGBTQIAP+ associations, organizations and people, particularly lesbians*, so at no time would it be possible for Clube Safo to support, promote or be present at EUROPRIDE 2025 in Lisbon.
May this be a moment that helps EUROPRIDE to reflect and rethink itself and effectively work in a way that can support the LGBTQIAP+ movements in the cities where it takes place in the coming years.”
Having shared our position, we reiterate we appeal to all LGBTQIAP+ activists and allies to raise awareness especially, due to the times we live in, it is increasingly necessary and urgent for each and every person to take a stand on crucial issues that directly impact our lives and experiences.
Clube Safo also subscribes the “NO PRIDE IN GENOCIDE” manifesto subscribed by more than 60 Human Rights and LGBTQIAP+ organizations in Lisbon and Portugal.
